What are essential oils, exactly?
Essential oils are volatile liquids extracted from plant materials and are used to support the body in a variety of ways. For example, some essential oils can help stop blood flow, while others are wonderful at supporting emotions and creating uplifting atmospheres! They are potent liquids that can affect each individual differently, so one solution for one person may not be an exact fit for another.
How can I know if essential oils are right for me?
Essential oils are very interesting plant products. They affect each individual differently, so it is difficult to state generically if essential oils are "right" for someone. However, to get more specific, it depends on a variety of factors. For example, the number and type of medications one might be taking can significantly impact the number and types of essential oils available to the individual because certain essential oils are known to have potential drug interactions with certain medication types. As another example, because essential oils are such potent liquids, it is very important to highly dilute or avoid altogether certain types of essential oils for children. Pets also fall into this category of concern. Other determining factors also include medical history and pre-existing conditions. If you aren't sure if essential oils are right for you, reach out to us and we can help you determine this through a New Client Consultation!
Why is it so important to prioritize advice from Aromatherapists?
Here at Ampersand Essentials Aromatherapy, we personally believe that an Aromatherapist possesses knowledge that is imperative to fully understanding essential oils, their uses, safety concerns, and applications. In order to call yourself an Aromatherapist, you must go through a series of courses and pass final exams (including Anatomy and Physiology) that are approved by the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA). Our founder Michelle has taken courses and passed exams from The School for Aromatic Studies and is currently on track to get her Legal Certification (140+ credit hours) from the same school to become fully registered with NAHA. By doing this, we can be confident that we are providing continually up-to-date information and resources in this industry.

Why are you so particular about essential oil brands?
By using essential oil brands and companies that have questionable practices and histories, you cannot guarantee that their oils are indeed pure. Impure essential oils are oils that have fillers, synthetics, and other unnatural products mixed in with them to make the oil either last longer or stretch out further across more bottles in production. Often times, these come in liquid forms of plastic, ethanols, and petroleum, all of which are INCREDIBLY dangerous to inhale, absorb into the skin, and/or ingest. If we used impure essential oils, we would be putting not only our health at risk, but yours as well.
Do you teach ingesting essential oils?
To be clear, there are many opinions on ingesting essential oils, so please make sure you do your own research on this topic before jumping into making a decision. Just because one resource says it is or is not safe doesn't mean it's the be-all-end-all of the industry.
What makes you different from others selling essential oils?
Other people you'll find "selling essential oils" are often times doing it through a Multi-Level Marketing Company like Young Living Essential Oils, doTERRA, and Purely. What I've found is many of them have NO IDEA what they're talking about when it comes to essential oils, and they often times make claims that are illegal, like saying essential oils cure cancer. To be clear, THEY DO NOT. What sets us apart is we have gone back to school, taken certified and approved aromatherapy courses, and continue to uphold an NAHA certified licensure. We take disclosures and claims very seriously, and we are not trying to just "make you do the business" with us. We do NOT sell MLM schemes. We do NOT try to recruit people to our "team". We offer legal, customizable services and products and actually care about our clients. It's as simple as that.
